Take a Kid Sailing, a new program that introduces children to sailing techniques and encourages fun on the water, kicks off this week in Montauk.

In the program sponsored by the Montauk Chamber of Commerce, children ages 6 to 16 can go for a sail with Montauk's charter boat captains and mates. The Mon Tiki takes out kids ages 6 to 16, and the Sail Montauk takes 10- to 16-year-olds. The two-hour expeditions take place Tuesday, July 15, through Thursday, July 17; personal flotation vests are provided.

The lesson is free if it's the child's first time sailing. There is a $10 fee for an adult who must accompany the child.

If you're interested in participating, you must sign up at the Montauk Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. For more information, call Sharon Buckler at 631-668-2428 or by emailing mcoc@montaukchamber.com.
