How kids help their neighbors in need

Have you ever finished your homework and then started playing video games? Let us stop you there. Try helping your neighbors instead! We did a survey of a fourth-grade class at our school. We found out that 17 out of 22 kids help their neighbors.
We asked kids what they do and here is what we found out. Six kids shoveled their neighbors' driveways, two kids cooked food for their neighbors, one kid helped clean someone’s house, one kid made a neighbor a snowman, six kids raked leaves for their neighbors, and one person helped install a neighbor’s lights. We also found out that 16 out of the 17 kids helped neighbors who were elderly, in need of a wheelchair, or blind.
We chose this topic because we want kids to help their neighbors no matter what age they are. Even a fourth-grader can do a lot to help someone else in need. By asking your neighbor how you can help them, you not only do something good for them, but you do something to help the community you live in. Also, it is very easy to help a neighbor, since you live close to them.
