Kidsday: Enjoying box tunnels
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be a hamster crawling through hamster tubes? Well, we wanted to see if we could create a kid-sized hamster maze and try it out.
We put together life-size hamster tubes made out of cardboard boxes. We added telescopes and windows to make it more exciting and fun.
My friends and I love our box tunnels. We use them for Nerf battles and hide-and-seek. My dog even loves sleeping and crawling through the tunnels. Add a telescope, and you can even pretend you are in a submarine. We sometimes use our box house to act out our video games. We pretend the boxes are the buildings and re-create scenes from the games we play.
Remember, next time you are bored, why not try to do something creative instead of watching TV. All you need are some large cardboard boxes, heavy tape and your imagination to create your own box creations.
A Quirky site for inventions
Some people may say I am quirky, but have you ever heard of a company called Quirky?
Well, Quirky is a company where people from around the globe can submit genius ideas on the Internet (quirky.com) and can possibly become published.
I spent some time looking at the website and found many interesting items and things that might be useful whether you use a computer or like to work in the kitchen.
A few items that I thought were unique are Digits and Stem. Digits are mini pins that can connect to gloves that you already own and are used to text and use touch screen devices in cold weather without taking off your gloves. Now, the next time you wear gloves in the cold and have to text or use a touch screen device, you won't need to take them off.
Stem is just like the top of a spray bottle. You insert Stem into a citrus fruit like lemon or lime and spray. No squeezing needed, just push. You can now use Stem to easily add flavor to your favorite foods and dishes.
I believe that Quirky is an interesting, helpful and genius company. I also like that a lot of the products that are on the site can also be purchased. I really hope that I will think of a helpful product for the world and it gets published on Quirky one day.
