Kidsday: Kids Crafternoon book series
Are you a kid who likes to make crafts? We recommend three books that are easy to do and fun to make. They are the Kids' Crafternoon series by Kathreen Ricketson (Hardie Grant Books) Each book has 25 craft ideas that are fun and easy crafts to create.
Sophie read the "Felting" book. She wrote: "This unique felting book has 25 fun felt projects to do on a crafty afternoon. Some of these projects can take a lot of time, so be patient and leave yourself some time to work. You also have to go to the local arts and crafts store. These projects require lots of supplies and some of the projects require real clothing material. Your shopping list would probably include felt, a sewing kit, pins, toy stuffing, thread and buttons. A huge plus is that the instructions they give you are easy to follow and easy to understand. They also give you many templates to trace to cut out the right shapes."
Safah read "Sewing." She wrote: "There are 25 awesome projects that can liven up your afternoon. The projects are very fun. The book is very organized. It even gives you a shopping list and easy step-by-step directions that anyone can follow. It even has templates all ready for you. This book would make a great gift for a crafty person."
Sarah read "Papercraft." She wrote: "Do you love making crafts using paper and other tools? You can make shadow boxes, stitch-bound books, confidential pocket books, kites, puppets, monster piñatas, and so much more. A few of my favorite projects are the monster piñata, book invaders, shadow box, and the stitch-bound book."
Fashion detectives
Have you ever wondered what the latest trends are? If you are interested in fashion, there are ways to uncover the hot trends. You can look around at what your friends are wearing and find a pattern. In my school, a new fad for the fifth-grade girls is layering their shirts. We like to wear two types: a Sugarlip tank top or a bandeau. Both of them are worn to layer under other shirts, but bandeaus are known to be more comfortable and lots of girls wear that every day.
The fashion for boys? It's totally a different story. They don't wake up in the morning and ask themselves "Should I wear a Sugarlip or a bandeau today?" They wake up and stress over whether to wear T-shirt or a jersey. You may think that boys don't care about what they wear -- but they do. Everyone does. What you wear is a big part of who you are. How we dress is our way of expressing ourselves to the world.
