Kidsday: Learning public speaking
I am enrolled in a public speaking class at Hofstra University's Saturday Classes for Young People. I've always struggled with public speaking, and I feel that my classes at Hofstra have certainly helped. My teacher is great, and she has worked with me, along with my classmates, to improve our public speaking skills.
A typical day in class consist of us receiving a lesson on a specific type of speech (persuasive, opinion, impromptu, etc.), followed a class discussion and then individually developing and presenting a speech on what we have just learned. My class has seven students, so my teacher can focus on each and make sure we are really getting something out of class.
Ms. Ariana Cassa is a fun and energetic teacher, so we are always interested in learning different speech topics every week. The first weeks in our class, it was hard to get speech volunteers, but now Ms. Cassa has a hard time choosing who speaks first! She not only has helped us with public speaking, but she also has motivated us to improve our grades and daily school life.
I'm happy that I was able to experience public speaking, and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, whether you have a fear of speaking or just want to improve your presentation skills. I can guarantee that, no matter what level of speaking you are at, you can definitely gain something from this class.
If you don't have a problem with public speaking, there are many other great classes available at Hofstra. You should sign up for a class. Visit them online: hofstra.edu/academics/ce/lifelonglearning/saturdayclasses
Game review: Jak and Daxter, for PS3
Jak and Daxter (Sony for PS3) is a humorous and fun game to play. It is also a challenging game at most times. The two main characters are Jak and Daxter. They have two allies in the game who work with them. Their names are unknown for some reason. The object of the game is to go through levels and look for what's called Power Cells. If you beat a level, you go back to your village to help other people look for more power cells. When you find out new secrets and places, they help you throughout the game. You will come across new allies and do missions for power cells and to unlock new objectives. A level has a lot of secret orbs, power cells and hidden places. On certain levels, you come across huge monsters. I give this game 5 smiles.
