On July 21, we went to Citi Field for Nickelodeon Day and to interview Leon Thomas III who stars as Andre Harris in one of our favorite shows, “Victorious.”

It was a super hot July day, but we didn’t mind because we got to go down to field level and meet some Nickelodeon stars including Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Our 4-year-old sister Lauren really liked that part. But our favorite part was when Leon Thomas came out onto the field to throw out the first pitch of the game. We got to pose with him and take some pictures. He was very friendly.

After that we went into the Sterling Club to cool off and have a bite to eat before going to Leon Thomas’ suite to interview him. We were both a little nervous, but as it turns out, there was no need to be nervous because he was very nice and answered all of our questions. He was relaxing in his suite with friends and family and it was like a party in there with a great view of the field. Leon is a talented performer — he sings, acts and plays numerous instruments.

In addition to his TV show, he is putting out an album. We heard him perform “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning so we know firsthand he can sing and we think his album will be great!
Be sure to watch “Victorious” on Nickelodeon.

How did you get started in show business?

My mom she’s actually a singer as well, and she took me to a gig she was doing and her friend saw me and said, you know you should audition for the “Lion King.” You look like Baby Simba, because I have the same hair style as a young Simba on the Broadway production. I got the show and I’ve just been working every since.

What is your favorite episode in “Victorious”?

It would have to be “Stuck in an RV.” It’s an episode where we’re stuck in an RV, it’s really hot. It’s so funny and it’s probably one of the first times, as a cast, we really connected as a whole.

You’ve been on Broadway, in film and on TV. Which do you like best?

I think they all have their different perks. Being on Broadway you have that instant gratification. You have the audience right there. But what’s really cool about film and TV is that you get to try it again. If you mess up, you get to really perfect the scene. So I have a just a lot of love for every aspect of it.

Tell us about the “Victorious” soundtrack.

The “Victorious” soundtrack out Aug. 2, and let me tell you we have some really great songs on there. There’s actually a song on there that I wrote when I was 14 years old and it actually ended up on the show and it’s really a blessing. So please pick it up. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

You play a lot of instruments. Did you take a lot of lessons when you were a child?

I really didn’t, but because my parents were musicians I was always around a lot of artists and musicians. So I got a chance to see how they did it and I would take the instrument home and just figure it out myself.

What do you like better: singing or acting?

That’s even a crazy question. It’s like having twins. You can’t love one more than the other. I really enjoy the musical aspect of things. I get a chance to show people my story in a song. So that’s really cool.

When did you audition for “Victorious”?

I auditioned for “Victorious” I was about 16, and I did one audition in California and I had to sing a song that I wrote on guitar and I had to audition as my character Andre and I met Victoria Justice for the first time and we had a really good audition and I had another one in New York.

Did you go to a performing high school like a Hollywood Arts School?

Actually no. I went to a regular school. It was called International Studies. That’s the high school I went to. We really focused more on studying issues that were going on around the world. So that was pretty cool.

Do you have any time for any hobbies?

Yeah. I really like to go out and have some fun once in a while. I get with a bunch of friends of mine and we go bowling. I’m not the best bowler, but I like to get out there and have fun.

Do you like baseball?

Yeah, baseball’s a really good time. As a kid I was never really good at it, but it’s cool and I admire everything that these guys do out there.

Are you a sports fan?

Yeah. Here and there I’ll check ESPN and I’ll tune in.

What other things do you enjoy other than acting and singing?

I don’t know. I really spend most of my time making music. But when I’m not doing that I feel like hanging out with my friends, chilling and going to people’s houses and relaxing.

Who is your favorite actor or actress?

My favorite actor would have to be Will Smith. He’s just really great. A funny guy and I really admire his lifestyle. He’s able to do music, he’s able to do acting, he’s also able to be a really cool role model. I’m just hoping I’m able to do just like him.

What advice do you have for kids who want to be like you?

Honestly, the best advice I could ever give a kid to get into acting or just wants to be successful in anything, you got to stay strong and always persistent. You got to keep at it. I went on a lot of auditions before I got “Victorious,” but I just kept at it and look where I am now.
