Tim Kubart, who grew up in Farmingdale and graduated from Farmingdale High School, has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Children’s Album category for his new CD entitled “Home” and will attend the Grammy Awards in California for the first time in February.

In addition to performing family music, Kubart shares hosting duties with Chica the Chicken on Sprout TV’s “Sunny Side Up” show for preschoolers and appeared on Sprout’s float in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

He was on an airplane to California when the nominees were announced this week, and when he landed and turned on his cellphone, his first text message was a dancing emoticon from a friend, followed by multiple texts from others congratulating him. “Everybody knew before me,” he says.

Kubart, 31, is single and lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. His parents still own his childhood home, and last month Kubart returned to perform at his elementary school alma mater, Woodward Parkway, to play a concert for students.
