One of my favorite places to go every summer is Montauk. If you have been there, you know what a great place it is.

One place we visit when we are in Montauk is Theodore Roosevelt County Park. It’s an outer beach. We camp in our camper three times a summer, usually a week at a time. My brother, Aidan, and I enjoy swimming and fishing at the campground. We always make new friends while camping.

While in Montauk with my mom and dad, we also go into town and play mini golf and go shopping at the sports store. In the picture’s background is Gosman’s dock and seafood restaurant. We enjoy getting Ben & Jerry’s ice cream while over by that dock.

Everyone knows Montauk, but do you know these facts about the most magical place on Long Island? Here are a few things I found out by checking out the Montauk Library website:

  • The Montauk lighthouse was the first lighthouse in New York.
  • On a bright day you can see three states from Montauk.
  • In 1648, the first families settle in East Hampton.
  • In 1896, the first steel pier in Montauk is built.
  • In 1926, the Montauk Inn burns down and the Montauk Manor replaces it.
  • In 1938, much of Montauk is destroyed by a hurricane.
  • During World War II, the Navy set up a seaplane and dirigible base.
  • In 1997, Camp Hero becomes a state park.
