All aboard! The first-ever National Lionel Train Day takes place Saturday on Long Island.

Celebrating 115 years, the iconic model train company is kicking off the holiday season with family-friendly events at hobby shops nationwide, including Nassau Hobby Center in Freeport and Trainland in Lynbrook. Additionally, the stores are offering a one-day-only collectible boxcar that will be available for pre-order.

Events at Nassau Hobby Center (13 W. Merrick Rd., Freeport) from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. include operating Lionel train layouts, Lionel conductor hats, temporary tattoos and other items for kids, a National Lionel Train Day banner for attendees to sign, in-store raffles, a balloon artist and face-painting, refreshments and more.

At Trainland (293 Sunrise Hwy., Lynbrook), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., check out operating hands-on Lionel train layouts, Lionel conductor hats, temporary tattoos and other items, in-store raffles and special pricing on select Lionel items.
