The littlest visitors to Splish Splash in Calverton will see something new this summer -- the elephant in Kiddie Cove's Elephant Pool has been retired and replaced by a cheerful yellow submarine.

"He was getting old, and he had served the children well for the last 20 years," Splish Splash general manager Mike Bengtson says of the friendly elephant. "We decided to change it out with a yellow submarine. I think the kids all like something new."

The submarine has a slide kids can ride down; the palm trees that surrounded the elephant and spurt water from their tops are still in the pool.

Kiddie Cove is geared to children 54 inches and shorter.
