Newborns are expensive. From diapers to doctor's visits, costs of raising your new bundle of joy quickly add up. If you're in New York, it'll add up even quicker.
According to WalletHub, New York is one of the most expensive states to have a baby. It ranked sixth in their list of 2015's worst states.
The personal finance website compared the costs of delivery, medical, day care centers, and overall infant-care necessities to determine just how much new babies will cost prospective parents.
On average, delivery alone will cost you about $10,000 in an American hospital, the survey revealed. If you're planning a C-Section, you can throw in another $5,000 on top.
And that's before you even leave the hospital.
Add in cribs, strollers, formula, toys and medicine and the financial cost of raising your baby in New York quickly becomes more expensive than others. It ranked 49th for average annual infant-care costs.
But the news isn't all bad. New York came in 12th on the health care ranking.
If you're wondering: the top state to have a baby is Vermont, followed by North Dakota, Oregon and Hawaii. Dead last is Mississippi.
