Learning by helping out at the Country Store in Orient

If you want to be a smart cookie, come on down to the Country Store in Orient. Trust me, it will “bake” your day!
I help out at the Country Store. It is the best place to buy baked goods, breakfasts, sandwiches, soups, and much more! I help the owners, Miriam Foster and Grayson Murphy, by sweeping, restocking drinks, putting chips on display and sometimes restocking newspapers. I occasionally get to watch Miriam bake her delicious pies.
If I could recommend anything, it would be their chocolate chip cookies. They are nice big cookies with a sweet taste and a hint of saltiness. Another thing I would recommend is The Jackson — it’s a vegan banana-and-Nutella sandwich. It’s an explosion of flavor. It’s sweet but not too sweet, the perfect amount.
I recently did an interview with the owners and learned a lot. Miriam is a baker, and Grayson is a chocolate maker. The Country Store used to be two different buildings that ended up being merged together. At one time it was the post office. It was owned by a different owner back then. The building itself is from the 1750s. They don’t just sell foods, they sell T-shirts, candy, sweatshirts, baby clothes, and small general things so you don’t need to go all the way to Greenport.
All around, this is a wonderful place to meet all your needs: yummy food, nice employees, cozy atmosphere. It’s the perfect store.
