Long Island pediatric offices are collecting books for underserved children.

From now through Sept. 4, participating Allied Physicians Group pediatric offices will be collecting new and gently used books that will be donated to The Book Fairies, a nonprofit that delivers the books to children in local underserved school districts.

More than 170,000 books have been donated to The Book Fairies, which connects with preschool programs, school districts and organizations geared towards adults such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens and residential centers.
