Every year at St. James Elementary School, right around Halloween, each class constructs a scarecrow with the class parents. Each grade picks a theme like sports, New York or movie characters. All the kids get to help make the scarecrows. The scarecrows stand outside in front of the building so everyone can see them. The main reason we construct the scarecrows is it is during Red Ribbon Week and they “scare” away drugs. It’s fun, looks great and helps kids learn and appreciate all the dangers of getting involved with drugs.
