Slacker Genius, Long Island teen band, to open for rock concert
Even though they aren’t old enough to hold a ticket to the adults-only rock concert, the Long Island teenage band Slacker Genius has been invited to play a Rush cover set to open for several adult bands at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25, at Revolution Bar & Music Hall, 140 Merrick Rd., Amityville.
They’ll play a 45-minute set of four to five songs spanning Rush’s repertoire, including “Working Man” and “Natural Science,” says Reese Ortenberg, 16, a sophomore at JFK High School in Plainview-Old Bethpage and the band’s lead vocalist bass guitarist and floor keyboards player.
Slacker Genius is made up of Ortenberg and guitar players Michael Montelli, 14, of Greenlawn and a freshman at Chaminade High School, and Harold Lichtenstein, 17, a senior at Farmingdale High School. Griffin McCarthy, 16, a sophomore at Westbrook Preparatory School in Westbury, is filling in as drummer for this gig. The band members met at Musicology music school in Smithtown.
Tickets are $20 and ticket holders must be 18. For more information, call 631-264-7712 or visit clubloaded.com
