Summer Infant recalls 2M baby bathers due to skull fractures
More than 2 million Mother’s Touch / Deluxe Baby Bathers are being recalled after five reports of infants suffering head injuries from falls from the bathers when the wire frame disengaged. The bathers were manufactured in China for Summer Infant of Woonsocket, R.I., and sold nationwide in the United States between September 2004 and November 2011. Summer Infant Inc. is recalling more than 2 million Mother's Touch/Deluxe Baby Bathers due to fall and head injury hazards.
According to the company's website, when the bather is lifted and/or carried with an infant in it, contrary to warnings and instructions to never lift and carry an infant in the product, its folding wire frame can suddenly fold and disengage from the side hinge, dropping the baby out of the bather.
The models recalled were sold at stores nationwide and online from September 2004 through November 2011.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the company have received seven reports of incidents in the United States, including five reports of infants suffering head injuries from falls from the bathers, according to the CPSC website.
