Gone are the years when Barbie dolls and bicycles topped every kid's wish list. This Christmas, it looks like more children than ever will be unwrapping something digital.

According to a survey by PBS Kids, 54 percent of parents with kids between the ages of 2 and 10 plan to buy their children at least one tech gift this Christmas.

The study listed tablets as the most popular shopping list item, followed by video game consoles.

Seventy percent of those parents also intend to purchase apps for their children, with the majority citing educational value as the most important factor in app selection. Price, as well as the inclusion of popular characters that kids know and love, were also major considerations.
