A live musical performance by the ArtsPower National Touring Theatre is based on the children's book by Danny Schnitzlein and illustrated by Matt Faulkner, "The Monster Who Ate My Peas" is featured on Jan. 11, 2014 at Tilles Center in Brookville.

Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From "Disney on Ice" and monster performances to educational activities and more, there's much to do on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities this weekend:

Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Magic at Nassau Coliseum (1255 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale). Join Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and the whole gang as they celebrate 100 years on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Price: $17.50-$165; parking: $8-$10.

The Monster Who Ate My Peas at Tilles Center (Route 25A, Brookville). Kids ages 5 and up can watch a live performance about a young boy who refuses to eat peas, until he finds a monster who will on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Price: $15-$23.

Celestial Celebration at Long Island Science Center (11 W. Main St., Riverhead). On Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., learn about the phases of the moon and solar system; create a moon chart and other space-themed activities. Price: $5.

Paint Party at Maritime Explorium (101 E. Broadway, Port Jefferson). Learn about paint and create your own nontoxic glossy paint on Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Price: $5.

The Happy Clam Show at the Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis Ave., Garden City). On Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., join Lena and The Happy Clam Band for music, games and dancing. Recommended for kids ages 3 and up. Price: $5 with museum admission ($12), $10 theater only.
