Weekend family fun on Long Island: Pumpkin drop, Native American Feast, more
Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From "A Christmas Story" to a Native American Feast, pumpkin drop and more, there is plenty happening on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities during the weekend:
"Robot Planet's 'The Intergalactic Nemesis' Live-Action Graphic Novel" at Tilles Center (Route 25A, Brookville). Book One: "Target Earth," a period-sci-fi-horror-suspense comedy with live music, voice-actors, a Foley artist and comic book images on Saturday at 4 p.m. Price: $14-$46.
Pumpkin Drop at Cradle of Aviation (Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Garden City). Drop your pumpkins from the third-floor balcony on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Bring your own or use one from the museum pumpkin patch if available. Price: Free with museum admission ($14, $12 for children and seniors).
"A Christmas Story" at John W. Engeman Theater (250 Main St., Northport). A musical set in 1940s Indiana and based on stories by radio humorist Jean Shepherd, and on the classic 1983 movie about a bespectacled boy named Ralphie who has a big imagination and one wish for Christmas, on Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Price: $69.
"Theatreworks USA: Fly Guy & Other Stories" at Landmark on Main Street (232 Main St., Port Washington). On Sunday at 2 p.m., families can enjoy a musical revue based on favorite children's books ("Paper Bag Princess," "Diary of a Worm" and "Lilly's Big Day"). Price: $18.
Native American Feast at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve (50 Barry Dr., Glen Cove). Families can enjoy demonstrations of American-Indian cooking and fire making, pottery making, films, corn grinding, tools and spear throwing on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Price: $5, free ages 4 and younger.
