Weekend family fun on Long Island: 'Seussical Jr,' frog adventures and more

Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From "Seussical Jr." to frog adventures, beach combing and more, there are plenty of activities happening on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities this weekend:
"Seussical Jr." at the Smithtown Center for Performing Arts (2 E. Main St., Smithtown). Families can watch a youth performance based on the works of Dr. Seuss on Saturday, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, at 11 a.m. Price: $15.
Welcome New Neighbors at Center for Science Teaching and Learning (1 Tanglewood Rd., Rockville Centre). On Sunday, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., take a tour of the facilities, meet the staff, experience typical activities including a nature hike, an animal show and an exhibit. Price: Free.
Cyclist Celebration at Long Island Science Center (11 W. Main St., Riverhead). Learn about the health benefits of cycling and exercise on Saturday, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Price: $5.
Family Adventures: Night of the Frogs at Connetquot River State Park Preserve (Sunrise Highway, Oakdale). Watch a presentation about frogs, then walk through the preserve to hear the sounds of various frogs on Saturday, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; reservations are required. Price: $4 adults, $3 children ages 3 and older; $8 parking fee.
Beach Combing and Sandcasting in East Hampton. On Sunday, at 10 a.m., children ages 5 and older will learn how to identify shells, feathers, seaweed and other natural treasures. Then, kids will cast them in plaster of Paris to make a seaside work of art; reservations are required. Call 631-537-9735 for meeting places. Price: $3 materials fee.
