Who's better at lacrosse?
Have you ever wondered which high school was better at lacrosse, Garden City or Manhasset? The world may never know.
Every year, the schools compete in the Woodstick Classic. These two schools have been playing each other since 1935, and they have met 122 times, with Manhasset holding the edge in wins, 67 to 55.
The parents and the kids in Garden City and Manhasset look forward to this game every year. In fact, it has become such a big deal that even the JV and middle school teams (both boys and girls) play the same day. Even alumni get together and play, all for a good cause. They raise money for a children's medical center in New Hyde Park.
The rivalry between Garden City and Manhasset can get very competitive. It's so intense. Sometimes pushing and shoving breaks out at "lax" games. Sometimes I just want to quit lax, because it's way too competitive. But the competition is about the fun.
The rivalry has been going strong for so long, and the older you get the more intense it gets. It's hard to choose who the better team is. (I live in Manhasset, and my cousins live in Garden City.) Manhasset beat Garden City a bunch of times and Manhasset is coming back strong. Even the bleachers are divided between the two teams. So who is better? We'll have to see this spring.
