Why you should try out for school sports
School starts next week and here is something you should consider doing if you are in seventh or eighth grade. You should join a school sport. Some school teams require a tryout and some do not. Even if you don't think you're good at it or you've never played it before, it is a great honor and a lot of fun to belong to a team.
It's rewarding to make a team for many reasons. The main reason is because you can make new friends. Playing a physical sport like football or soccer is also great for keeping you in shape. Last year I played on my school's football team. I had a blast. I was selected to start on the A squad and helped my team to win four games.
Playing on a school team also gives your friends and family an opportunity to come and watch you play. This can make you feel really good inside. With a lot of continued hard work and practice, I hope to be playing on the high school team in a couple of more years.
Team sports are a great way to build school spirit. Many people think that if you are on a school team or join other school activities, you have a good chance to be a better student, too. It usually helps you focus on things.
I greatly encourage anyone and everyone entering middle school to try out for a school team. You never know where it can take you.
