We had the awesome opportunity to meet a WWE wrestler, Charlotte Flair, and interview her over our holiday break. We arrived at the NYCB Live: Home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum where she was about to perform on Dec. 27 early to get ready for our interview. We were all so excited to meet a professional wrestler. We wondered what she would be like, was she going to be nice or mean? WWE wrestlers have a tough job and they have to be tough to compete in the ring. Charlotte Flair knows all about it because her dad, Ric Flair, was also a wrestler for years.

As soon as we entered the Coliseum we felt the energy. We were privately led backstage to interview Charlotte. While we waited we saw pictures on the walls of different events at the Coliseum over the years. We couldn’t believe we were backstage where all of these great performers hang out while they get ready for their shows. When we were invited into the room to interview Charlotte Flair we felt nervous.

The first thing we noticed was that Flair looked more beautiful in person than in the photos we had seen of her. There were so many questions to ask her and she made us feel more comfortable because she smiled a lot. We asked her at what age did you decide to become a wrestler? And she told us age 27.

We also asked if she became a professional wrestler because her dad was one. She shared that she became a wrestler because of her family but not specifically her dad. She told us about her brother and how he also loved wrestling. He wanted to be a wrestler. Unfortunately, her brother Reid passed away. Charlotte decided she would honor him and his love of wrestling by becoming a professional wrestler.

When we asked her who her best friend was she  said fellow wrestler Becky Lynch and she told us all about their fight in the ring. She said they were best friends because they do everything together! They work out together, train together, talk about the best food to eat, and all things best friends talk about. Then the day came when they had to compete against each other in the ring. Charlotte Flair said it was a difficult day because she wanted to encourage her best friend but, even more so, she wanted to win, because she is really competitive!

We asked her if she ever argues with the audience. She laughed and replied, “If they say something.”

Finally, we had to know two more things. “Hot fudge sundae or cake?” James asked. “Hot fudge sundae!” Charlotte quickly replied. We finished the interview with a very important question. We asked if she liked to dance and if she would show us her best dance move. She said, “Yes, I like to dance.” As for her favorite dance move, she is still deciding on it. She shared it might be “The Floss” but she wasn’t sure how to do it and needed a little practice. Instead she showed us her best “Macarena.”

After the interview we were escorted to our seats just rows from the ring. The entire Coliseum was filled with energy and excitement. The live wrestling event was so cool and also painful to watch. The things we saw the wrestlers do to their opponents looked horrifying. Miz TV started the show with an announcement that A.J. Styles would not compete against Daniel Bryan because he had the flu. The new scheduled wrestler to compete with Daniel Bryan was John Cena. We were beyond excited.

Some of the matches that stood out were the R-Truth and Carmella vs. Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega in a mixed tag match. We didn’t realize how fun and funny this sport could be. R-Truth and Carmella started dancing during the match. The Daniel Bryan and John Cena match in the steel cage was amazing. The match lasted almost 20 minutes and we were routing for John Cena all the way. Daniel Bryan hit John Cena with a low blow, grabbed the title belt to hit John Cena with it and crawled through the cage door to win. John Cena put up a good fight and fought with honor. Finally, the best match of the night was Asuka, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. It was a triple threat match for the Smackdown Title. We thought we were nervous interviewing Flair, she must have been nervous thinking about competing against her best friend. Asuka beat Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch but Charlotte Flair definitely got her fight time. She brought in a kendo stick and hit both Asuka and Becky Lynch with it. Becky flew out of the ring but Asuka got Charlotte in the Asuka Lock and it was game over. Asuka won with a submission.

We were tired yet still full of energy at the end of the night. Two of our favorite wrestlers, John Cena and Charlotte Flair, competed. We were thrilled to watch them but upset they didn’t win. There is always next time. Maybe we should have done “The Floss” for Charlotte Flair before the event. It could have been her new lucky charm!
