When she bought the boutique in Rockville Centre 11 years ago known as Instant Karma, Vonda Wells changed the name to A Time for Karma and took it from a shop carrying mostly Wiccan merchandise to one selling items from various beliefs.

“Everything here has a meaning,” says Wells, noting that there are informational papers near each item and the staff is also very knowledgeable about the spiritual essence of their wares.

You’ll find crystals, rocks, wooden boxes with spiritual designs, oracle and tarot cards, candles and candle holders, including chakra votives, chime candles and Crystal Journey pillars.

“We do have candles and incense, but half the store is gemstones and gemstone jewelry,” says Wells.

The gemstones, like everything else in the store, have a metaphysical aspect to them.

Each candle has a different purpose and some have gemstones in them, explains Wells. “We have some Reiki-charged candles and we also have some candles that are blessed by shamans,” she says.

There’s a large assortment of cauldrons, ritual shells and burning bowls, all of which can be used for burning ritual herbs, which are believed to bring about specific energies. “You can burn rose petals, and then that can bring in the loving energies,” Wells says.

Also on hand are sage and other herbs, incense, essential oils, and smudges, which are burned in cleansings.

Prices start at 75 cents for a gemstone and go up to $800 for a three-foot tall geode.

A Time for Karma is located at 14 S. Village Ave., in Rockville Centre. It’s open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; 516-442-3200, atimeforkarma.com.
