Six months into running Barkfield Road, which sells organic dog foods and healthy treats, plus accessories and toys, Kevin and Gabriella Neglia are eagerly getting to know their customers — and their pets.

“We always remember the dogs’ names,” says Gabriella, 29. “But sometimes we’re like, ‘What’s Stormy’s mom’s name?’”

Forming a trusted bond, if not a pack mentality, with shoppers is key for the couple who live in Commack with their pooches Leyla and Chloe.

“If they’re unsure of what to give their dog, we’re there to help,” says Kevin, 28, whose interest in wellness includes pets and people. He owns Loco Motion New York, a boutique fitness studio in Huntington.

A carefully curated selection of high-quality frozen raw food, gently cooked frozen chow, dry kibble and single-ingredient treats (beef, chicken, lamb, turkey, anyone?) are shop mainstays. The store has been part of the East Northport commercial landscape for 11 years. The Neglias were customers before becoming owners.

Slow feeders to pace pups at mealtime, toys for playful fun, herbal supplements, plus goat milk and bone broth to enhance the nutritional content of your dog’s favorite food are also available. (There are a few selections of food and treats for cats.)

A tail-wagging attraction is the bakery case featuring pet-friendly goodies including cookies in seasonal shapes, “pupcakes,” and cannolis filled with yogurt. Most items are outsourced, but with a couple day’s notice Barkfield Road can create custom birthday cakes for your four-legged BFFs.

In-store talks on topics such as raising a puppy and hiking with your dog are held periodically. Events are posted on Instagram.

Frozen and raw items run from $5 up to $60, depending on container size. Bags of gently cooked food range from $8 to $63. Kibble sells for $15 to $80. Bakery treats cost $3 to $30.
