Bill Blass: Modern Blass-ics

Bill Blass was among the last shows of New York Fashion Week, this runway set at the woodsy Union Club on the East Side. Although not groundbreaking, designer Jeffrey Monteiro presented a neat little collection with a modern edge using the Blass archives for inspiration.
Models, many wearing felt baseball caps, donned anchor-logoed sweaters, little sailor shorts and some sexy evening numbers in black, yellow and red with deep-cut armholes, low backs and thigh-high slits. A few looks were a tad mumsy – a red shirtwaist with a neck bow and a red striped ensemble that brought to mind jailbirds.
But, all in all it was very lovely and civilized, as Blass would have liked it.
