Brad Goreski on how to turn closet clutter into cash

Brad Goreski broke onto the fashion scene as celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe's assistant on Bravo series "The Rachel Zoe Project", and he now stars in his own show for the network called "It's a Brad Brad World". Since breaking free of Zoe's command, Goreski has amassed his own high profile clients and also landed a spot as exclusive brand stylist for Kate Spade New York. Now he's traveling the country as a member of online marketplace eBay's new Chic Squad, but he took a quick break to give Newsday readers some tips on how to turn closet clutter into fast cash. 

As a stylist, I know firsthand how many people have incredible, stylish clothes tucked away that they just don’t wear. Why not encourage people to cash in on these items so they can have the funds to buy what’s on their fashion wish list? I’ve sold (and bought) on eBay and it’s just so incredibly simple.

eBay just launched a new, simplified selling experience with just four simple steps to selling fashion:

SCRIPT: Fill in the information about what you're selling.

SHOOT: Snap a photo of your item.

PRICE: Set your price and select a shipping option.

LIST: List your item.

The eBay community is huge – nearly 100 million – and fashion is one of the most popular categories.  

Certain items like denim and designer handbags are always in demand on eBay. In fact, women’s accessories sell every five seconds on eBay, a pair of shoes sells every 6 seconds and a woman’s dress sells every 6 seconds!

As a buyer, I love the incredible selection that’s available on eBay. As with any purchase, it makes sense to read up on the product details…size, color, material, etc. Some sellers offer free shipping, which can increase your chances of securing a buyer.

Designer brands are sought after year-round, and some hot sellers include:

Handbags: Balenciaga, Kate Spade, Lanvin

Shoes: Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman 

Sunglasses: Betsey Johnson, Ray-Ban, Tom Ford 

Denim: J Brand, 7 for all Mankind, True Religion

Of course! You don’t have to have all designer items to be a successful seller on eBay. Think like a buyer and be creative when listing your items. As long as your item is in good condition and you are ready to part ways, list it!

If you have extra cash, try buying that perfect handbag, or a pair of shoes. They are my two obsessions.
