The back wall of Carolina Herrera’s runway was a mosaic of sketches and swatches from her fall collection that showed the designer’s range. There were chic indigo and black combos that could work day or night. These were luxed up with broadtail and sable trim – perfect for Herrera’s ladies --out in force.

But this season, Herrera ‘s appeal goes well beyond her core. Slim pants, skinny enough for younger things to wear with towering boots or heels – were topped with a broadtail-fronted turtleneck. Cropped jackets – not thoooose classic blazers --rang fresh and youthful, while a fluttery pale evening gown was paired with a cushy coat that seemed as if it were nonchalantly grabbed from a closet and tossed on.

Cool.

Speaking of which, coolish colors dominated this collection though Herrera added a pop of pinkish red on chalky abstract print dresses and gowns, (she called it “Haute pink,” get it?) and threw in a few purple hues for good measure.

Herrera’s marquis star, Renee Zellweger sat front and center, clearly delighted.
