Elie Tahari Day is Wednesday, Mayor Bloomberg proclaims

Tahari, who spent his early years in an Israeli orphanage, arrived in New York in his 20s -- smack dab in the middle of the disco era. He started out as an electrician but eventually turned to fashion -- popularizing the tube top in his first days as a designer. He expanded to dresses, tailored suits and, well, the rest, as they say, is … you know.
To pay tribute to that history, Tahari has developed a special Elie Tahari Edition 1974 capsule collection, featuring updated takes on some of his iconic silhouettes of the past. It will be shown at his Spring 2014 presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Not a bad way to celebrate a company’s 40th anniversary.
Although, as Rivers says -- “It doesn’t look a day over 39!”
