October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and that means it's time to get out and fight for the cure. Whether you're shopping for pink products, getting your hair done or attending an event at a local mall, here are ways you can help while having a little fun, too.

Free haircut and style

Where: JCP Salons near you

When: Through October, while appointments are still available

What: Breast cancer survivors will get a free haircut and style, and JCPenney will donate $1 for every haircut they give to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Call your closest salon or stop by to schedule an appointment.

Pink STYLE

Where: Tanger Outlets at Deer Park and Riverhead

When: Now through Oct. 25

What: As part of the Pink STYLE campaign to fight breast cancer, shoppers can purchase Pink Cards for a $1 donation each. The card provides them with a 25 percent discount on a single item at participating Tanger Outlets stores. Proceeds from the cards will be donated to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Paint the Country Pink

Where: paintthecountrypink.com

When: Starting Oct. 1

What: Show your support for those fighting breast cancer and for your community by virtually swiping a paintbrush over your location on the map. As more people swipe, areas will become more pink. For every swipe, Dressbarn will donate $1 to the American Cancer Society, up to $100,000. At Dressbarn stores, pick up a Ruby the puppy stuffed animal, the face of the campaign, for $6. The entire net profit will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
