The fashions carried at a trendy boutique in Huntington resemble that of clothes that might be modeled on a catwalk — but you're more likely to see them on a dog walk.

Northport residents Karen Durka and Susan Levine own FETCH — a store they describe as “a luxurious lifestyle boutique for dogs” offering inspired products for canines with a “fashion-forward” parent.

Being different from other pet supply stores in the area is by design, Durka says. A self-described “true garmento” as well as a dog owner, Durka worked in the human fashion business for 28 years in Manhattan, having jobs primarily in children’s wear and swimwear.

“Most pet stores are 75% food, we wanted to be different,” Durka says. “Our clothing and accessories take up about 70% of the store.” And when she’s ready to buy new merchandise and deciding what to order from her dog clothing designers, Durka always keeps this question in mind: “’Would I put this on my child or would I buy this for myself?”’

FETCH opened in 2015 in a smaller space on Gerard Street in Huntington, then in 2020 the shop moved to its current, larger location and added dog grooming to its services.

“It’s like one of those really nice department stores that have salons inside. The dogs can have their hair done and then get something really nice to wear.”

Also included among the shop’s offerings are collars, harnesses, dog toys and puppy layettes. A stylish black and white cabana stripe tent featured as part of a summer camping-themed display at the store looks just like a tent sold for children.

Other stylish items include a pair of doggy pajamas that come with a matching sleep mask for the owner and a doggy raincoat that comes in a choice of colors including yellow, red, navy and pink.

Prices range from $3 for a bakery dog treat to $300 for luxury dog bedding. FETCH is located at 310 New York Ave. in Huntington. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; 631-824-6636
