Sometimes the best gift is not what you give, but what you give back.

Just ask Eileen Fisher. In honor of Earth Day, the designer is asking her customers to do some spring cleaning and donate up to five gently worn garments (from her brand) to any Eileen Fisher store, including her East Hampton location.

The clothes will be cleaned and resold at Green Eileen, a new specialty shop in Yonkers, where all sales benefit leadership and other initiatives supporting women and girls.

Parting with old clothes can be sad, but this way you'll know "proceeds will go to a good cause," says Fisher.

Clothes that can't be sold will be upcycled, used for knitting, rug weaving and other creative workshops at the store.

Once you've made more room in your closet, save it for something green.
