Hervé Leger by Max Azria: Let them eat cake
Marie Antoinette meets Hervé Leger? An unlikely pair, but Max Azria somehow pulled off a modern translation melding the style of the imperious Queen of France with the iconic painted-on-the-bod bandage dress.
Starting with a delicate blush palate, Azria worked in strong lingerie details, including boned corsetry emphasizing hourglass figures and exposed garter hooks hanging from hems and even on shoulder straps – quite suggestive. Intricate stitching and mesh were captivating but most striking was laser-cut leather that looked like lace.
Two versions of a short dress actually poufed out at the hips, making a little breathing room and giving us pause. Was Max Azria letting the bombshell bodies that can actually pull off this brand eat...cake? Maybe. But just a little.
