Hitchcock's femme fatales at Badgley Mischka

People of a certain age remember the ominous Hitchcock greeting: “Good evening.” The Badgley Mischka runway – dark and filled with fog -- offered up a collection, inspired by Hitchcock femme fatales, that virtually guaranteed a good evening with its high style, glam and glitter.

The boys, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, are self-proclaimed magpies and so it’s a pretty sure thing that almost anything will get at least a dollop of bling, and they did not disappoint at their Tuesday morning show at the Lincoln Center tents.

But while razzle dazzle was everywhere, these weren’t the blown out ballgown of season’s past. They were structured and slim and perfect for Kim Novak types.

Ladylike but not a bit prim, the line included a beautifully tailored oyster crepe dress that featured half peplums (not a bead in sight) and a black beaded cashmere twin set topping an abstract printed “Vertigo” (get it?) skirt.

For evening, there were even more choices. Show stopping: a pine sequin organza gown that looked like a mermaid should wear it; a black tuxedo jacket, swanky over a gold metallic jersey gown, and a couple of looks constructed of jet, pewter and bronze satin looked like armor. And wink, wink, amid all neutrals, there was a color ….”blood " red. Good evening.
