Temps were warm last night but the air positively sizzled as designers, models and stylish VIPs awaited the arrival of Lady Gaga at the CFDA Fashion Awards at Lincoln Center.
Gaga was receiving the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America for her, well you know, crazy outfits and the way she's captivated a nation. The big question: What would the Ga -- who's hit the red carpet in an egg, or wearing meat -- choose for this, the fashion industry's Oscars?
"Ha! God only knows," remarked British songstress Estelle, looking sultry in a bronze Diane von Furstenberg gown. Kirsten Dunst hung out at an outdoor patio with menswear designer Patrik Ervell, wearing a sleek blue tux he'd whipped up for her. Pamella Roland outfitted TV legends Judith Light (in wasabi green) and Linda Gray (geranium).
"Gorgeous!" shouted Marc Jacobs, grabbing fellow designer Betsey Johnson. Jacobs was also an award winner -- receiving the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
Johnson summed up the night. "I looooove Lady Gaga -- she's my inspiration." Oh, as to what Gaga wore: a mini trailing yards of tulle by her pal and stylist Nicola Formichetti.
Award winners of the night included Michael Bastian (best menswear designer of the year), Proenza Schouler (womenswear) and Alexander Wang (accessories).
