It may well have been the last Lady Crusaders team huddle Thursday night for Newsday's Project Prom winner Lauren "Boogie" Brozoski. Brozoski, 18, Long Island Lutheran High School's MVP hoops star, along with a small group of players from the champion basketball team, convened for a pre-prom party at the Commack home of guard Erin Storck.

Brozoski's hair and makeup, done at nuBest Salon and Spa in Manhasset, was modeled on her celebrity crush Alicia Keys. Her uniform was replaced by a gown dubbed "The Fast Break" -- it narrowly eked out a win as 38 percent of Newsday voters decided upon the swanky black Jovani crystal-encrusted halter and skirt for her to wear to the prom.

LuHi coach Rich Slater said he was impressed by Brozoski's metamorphosis. "I'm used to seeing her in sweats, sneakers, all smelly and sweaty," he said. "She's turned into a beautiful woman."

Her date, Dwayne Daniel, 20, who plays basketball at the College of Central Florida, was equally wowed. "When I first saw her tonight, my eyes lit up," he said.

A beaming Brozoski, who will attend the University of Michigan in the fall on a basketball scholarship, could not have been happier with the dress. "Newsday readers really hit the buzzer beater," she said.

After the party, it was off to the prom at Chateau Le Mer in Lindenhurst, where Boogie planned to boogie in her dress and be the belle of the ball . . . but this time, the ball had nothing to do with basketball.
