Though it’s been around for three decades, Love Lane Sweet Shoppe in Mattituck was owned by Jackie and Bill Wilsberg for 10 years. Then in 2019, their daughters Ashley Rutkowski and Chelsea Wilsberg bought the shop from their parents.

The sisters were no strangers to the business: Rutkowski managed it and Wilsberg worked there on weekends, says Wilsberg.

“We grew up coming to the store,” Wilsberg says, adding that they still both live in Mattituck, down the block from where they grew up.

In the sweets department, Love Lane Sweet Shoppe carries a wide variety of nostalgic candies, from Laffy Taffy to Push Pops, and assorted penny candy.

“We have a huge selection of chocolates where you can do a mixed box or a bag,” says Wilsberg, noting that they have lots of chocolate-covered pretzels with miscellaneous toppings, candy bars, fruit slices, jars of gummies and licorice.

Besides sweets, Love Lane Sweet Shoppe has the “shirt shop,” which the sisters have greatly expanded to include souvenir T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, long sleeved T’s, and hats that say, “North Fork,” “Mattituck,” “Laurel,” “Cutchogue” and “Jamesport.”

In tabletop, there are platters, bowls, and dishes, pitchers, and vases that change with the season. Currently, they’re offering shell- and beach-themed items and melamine, which is popular with picnickers and boaters.

The shop carries jewelry, soy candles in tins, hand soaps, Stonewall Kitchen marinades, salsas, and dips, and “Really Good” jam, which Wilsberg says, “is really good and made in Cutchogue.”

The shop has a large wedding gift section, offering picture frames, wineglasses, items for showers and engagement parties and a large baby gift section with toys, hats and swaddle blankets.

Besides the 8-cent penny candy, prices range from $10 for hand soap to $100 for a large ceramic serving platter.

Love Lane Sweet Shoppe is located at 125 Love Lane in Mattituck. The shop is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 631-298-2276, lovelanesweets.com.
