Mariah Carey’s fertile grounds: a new baby and an HSN lifestyle line
On Thursday, Mariah Carey confirmed what we’ve all been wondering for a while: she’s pregnant and having her first baby with husband Nick Cannon sometime next spring. The big news today is that the world’s most successful female recording artist has been productive on other fronts as well.
Carey will strut her new line of lifestyle stuff – jewelry, footwear and fragrance on HSN on November 29 (which just happens to be Cyber Monday).
Natch, there will be plenty of shoes. According to Women’s Wear Daily, Carey worked closely with HSN Inc. chief executive officer Mindy Grossman…actually inside of the singer’s legendary shoe closet – a virtual shoe library --that has been immortalized in the likes of Architectural Digest and on "Oprah."
Carey is particular about her footwear. “When I don’t have a platform, we could have a traumatic moment, like a semi-spill on stage, which nobody wants,” she told WWD. “A platform shoe grounds you a little more. I try to make my designs more practical as well as pretty. One of the things I thought about was how I could do affordable, really nice, comfortable shoes that are still flattering to the leg.” Prices will range from $69.90 to $169.90.
And, in the bling department, well, there will be butterflies (a Carey favorite and the name of one of her hit albums), and more. Look for colorful stone accents, crystal and chains with prices that go from $39.99 to $199.
For the ultimate fan, 25 special limited edition bottles of Carey’s Luscious Pink Deluxe Edition Parfum will come in a gold cosmetic case and feature Swarovski crystal-studded butterfly caps. Each will contain a personal note from the singer herself (oooh!) and will be available on a first-come basis.
The folks at HSN are, according to WWD, pretty excited about the new diva in the house. Grossman told WWD, ““She is personable, funny and smart and obviously creative and talented, and we just talked about what she is passionate about — shoes, jewelry, fragrance and her music. She is magnetic, and I think this has the opportunity not just to appeal to our existing customer base, but also a lot of new customers.”
