The manicures backstage at Nicole Miller's New York Fashion Week show were sci-fi inspired, just like the spring 2013 collection, and the look was funky and fun, yet totally wearable.

Each nail featured a sparkling mint green diamond shape set against a sleek black background.

"Mint green is one of the staple colors in the CND collection," said Candice Manacchio, nail and fashion expert for CND, "and we'll be seeing a lot of it in designers' spring fashion collections."

It took 40 hours to hand-paint nails for all the models for the show, but Manacchio tells us how we can get the look ourselves at home.

To get the right shade, mix CND's Green Scene with a little bit of yellow and white. Then, apply their Sapphire Sparkle Effect with a sponge for texture. Let that dry, then box it in with a black polish.

"Its no longer about pinks and oranges for spring," Manacchio said. "Black is becoming your staple all year round."
