Naeem Khan: Glitter and glam and a wedding gown, too, at NYFW

The opening looks at Naeem Khan’s show at Lincoln Center Tuesday afternoon were folkloric embroideries inspired by painted Mexican ceramics and tiles. There was an embroidered taffeta trapeze mini dress, a peasant blouse with a gathered skirt and of course, a graphic caftan, which is a signature in Khan’s shows.
We’ve seen beauties like this from Khan before, but not so the next grouping of looks: pared down dresses and gowns in pop-your-eyeballs out neon. They were pretty, entrance makers even, but might be tough to wear more than once, which frankly, Khan’s well-heeled customers may not care about.
But Khan is at his very best when it comes to glitter, glam, gilding and elaborate beading and he offered plenty of choices. In coral, a geometrically beaded trumpet gown was stellar. A gold metallic floral beaded dress featured a topaz embellished bodice … talk about a wow factor.
To close the show, Khan went old school -- a bride wearing wild rose embroidered wedding gown in organza and a chapel-length veil. He's launching his bridal collection Oct. 12.
