Is the future of fashion now? “A. Human” is the latest in a string of immersive pop-up installations to open in Manhattan with a heavy dose of surrealism and backdrops begging for selfies.

This one features mannequins adorned in surgically implanted high heels, lace-like finger webbing and other body modifications -- an immersive show by PR-meister (and Kim Kardashian pal) Simon Huck, who says he’s hoping to encourage introspection about “a potential future of fashion.” And selfies.

As fashion trends, many of these looks don’t seem practical -- or likely. But that’s not the point.

There are plenty of simpler ways to sport a futuristic look — and without breaking the bank. Sci-fi style is trending for fall, with brands churning out iridescent holograms, metallics and mod shapes.
