After major construction, and just under the wire for the holiday season, Urban Outfitters opened its doors at 1950 Northern Boulevard in Manhasset this week.

The huge store – somewhere around 11,000 square feet including stockrooms -- is classic industrial – crackled glass entry doors, wood and concrete floors, exposed pipes – and it is stunning.

Urban and urbane clothes and accessories for young women are beautifully merchandised on the first floor.  The hipster mix includes lacy tops, reasonably priced skinny jeans, bohemian velvet jackets, quirky scarves, groovy little dresses, striped sweatshirts and lots of beaded jewelry.  There’s also a small gadgetry section that features vintage albums and even an old school record player.  Down a flight of wide steps it’s guy world with flannel shirts galore, hoodies, down vests, comical tee-shirts and a fun array of socks.

Here also find sunglasses, shoes and a hipster selection of housewares and gifty tschokes – flasks, frames, kooky toys and a few items, such as a pink photo album emblazoned with an expletive -- R-rated and beyond.

The staff, comprised of Indie types, is super sweet and helpful, and manager Dan, who wears a ring in his nose, and his enthusiasm on his sleeve told us, “We are all so stoked about this place.  It’s so great.”

If we have one complaint, it’s the music.  Not the bopping tracks, but the decibel – while it’s normal loud throughout the store, it can blow your head off in the dressing rooms – which is probably by design to get customers moving out of them.   But maybe not.  Maybe we’re just old.  In any case, definitely worth a visit
