WHAT "Locks in Translation," a show examining the social and personal complexities of hair. Curated by Brooklyn painter-poet JoAnne McFarland, "Locks" exhibits works by artists Emma Amos, Susan Bee, Rachel Eliza Griffiths, Kenyatta Hinkle, Jee Hwang, Carolyn Martin, Ann Pachner, Annette Rusin, Barbara Siegel, Lorna Simpson and Hong Zhang, plus poet Elizabeth Alexander."

WHAT "Elizabeth Jordan: Snapshots," recent work by the Long Island-born (she's from Sea Cliff), London-based photographer, chronicles her travels to Africa, Russia, Bosnia, Thailand and Myanmar. Her style is to apply paint over technically enhanced photos to create a pop-art effect.

MUSIC
WHAT The Long Island Youth Orchestra, made up of gifted secondary school musicians, presents a concert of works by Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Rossini, plus Vieuxtemps' Concerto No. 5 with violin soloist Anton Polezhayez of Sea Cliff. Martin Dreiwitz, who founded the orchestra in 1962, conducts. This summer, LIYO embarks on its 40th anniversary tour to Spain, Morocco and Portugal.
