U.S. Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy's Sochi puppies are finally coming home.
But one of the dogs didn't make the trip.
A female puppy named Sochi became sick and died before Kenworthy's friend Robin Macdonald could get the dogs to the United States from Sochi, Russia.
Macdonald said the dog died because "they refused to let me bring her to get treatment," according to one of his tweets. Macdonald did not specify who "they" was.
On February 19, Kenworthy tweeted that the dogs were at the vet in Sochi and would be able to fly once they were "ready & cleared."
Macdonald posted a picture of himself with the dog on Twitter on March 9.
"No words can explain what has happened here, good bye little guy, we will miss you," he tweeted. "Heading home on Tuesday."
Kenworthy thanked his friend for helping save the five dogs — Jake, Rosa, Mishka, Mom, and Stryder.
"He's stayed in Russia an extra two weeks by himself to make sure they are being taken care of," Kenworthy wrote on his official Facebook page.
The silver-medal winner became known for his puppy love during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia after he posted pictures of himself with the litter on Twitter.
The Olympian referred to the group of pups as the "gang" and said he would do all he could to bring the dogs home with him in February.
It looks like his efforts have paid off.
Macdonald and the puppies said goodbye to Sochi Tuesday night and are en-route to Denver, Colorado.
And Kenworthy couldn't be more excited to greet Macdonald and his "elite team of travel companions."
"These dogs are finally coming home! Can't wait to see him and all the pups again very soon!" Kenworthy posted on Facebook.
