Craft and holiday fairs offer handmade jewelry, tree trimmings

The holiday season is prime time for the creative. One-of-a-kind gifts, tree trimmings and handmade jewelry are just some of the goods in store at craft and holiday fairs that appeal to those hoping to stay clear of malls come November and December. Admission to these fairs is free.
MELVILLE
Behold the art of basketry at the Long Island Basketmakers Guild’s annual basket show and sale. In addition to showcasing handmade baskets, the event includes weaving demonstrations and a raffle auction. Baskets continue to grow in popularity as they are commonly used for decorative and storage purposes.

The Country Parlor Holiday Home Show is a one-stop shop for holiday décor such as wreaths, rugs, woodcarvings, gift baskets, ornaments and tree trimmings. Folk art, crafts and gifts also are for sale at the three-day event. This year, a fully decorated tree with one-of-a-kind ornaments made by the featured artisans will be raffled. Additional attractions will include house tours and exhibits.

NORTHPORT
The Northport Craft Fair features one-of-a-kind jewelry designs, organic soaps, body and bath products and handmade soy candles. According to event organizer Cathy DePasquale, the event, which is now in its 36th year, also will include hand-knit and crocheted scarves, shawls, hats, booties, quilted textiles and handmade and personalized ornaments and cutting boards. For the foodies, there will be gourmet chocolate, honey, olive oils, jams, soups and dips. The fair also includes a wide variety of upcycled crafts, wine bottle cheeseboards, wind chimes, birdfeeders, recycled wooden signs, holiday décor, jewelry made from typewriter keys, beach glass and vintage silverware.

DIX HILLS
The Art League of Long Island hosts its 53rd Holiday Fine Art & Craft Fair, featuring one-of-a-kind works from 70 exhibitors.
