This is a photo of my son, Michael (age 8), which I took last night during the rainstorm. It was still raining, but the light came into the house and we all ran outside. Both of my sons were playing in the rain and I managed to catch Michael in this position. The sunset was glorious and he was tickled pink to be dancing in the rain :)

A few weeks ago, I took my son Lucas Lutz to the Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife refuge in Sag Harbor. At this refuge, various bird species are accustomed to feeding on sunflower seeds right out of visitors' hands. It was so wonderful to see my son's excitement to connect with the natural world. The simple joy of experiencing a bird landing on one's hand to feed can create a feeling of peace and connectedness. Encouraging our children, and others, to encounter moments like these may inspire them to care about the environment, and seek fulfilling experiences outdoors.

Captured above is my 81?2 year old grandson, Ryan Catapano of Island Park, NY. This is the first year (and the first game of the season) where live pitching is introduced. 2 years ago was tee ball, last year was a pitching machine. Ryan finished last season going 10 for 10. For that he received the M.I.P. trophy. For this year?s first game Ryan actually led off, made contact, got a hit, ran to first and eventually scored. As his proud grandpapa we all just love him to death.
