SMOKIN' AL HAS A PROPOSAL
Smokin' Al Horowitz is going hog wild for a Giants win on Super Bowl Sunday. But instead of making money on a victory, the restaurateur-pitmaster is hoping to give away thousands of dollars worth of ribs and pulled pork, should the home team rule.
Here's the deal. You have until Feb. 2 to place an order worth $200 to $500 from the catering menu at Smokin' Al's Famous BBQ Joint in Bay Shore or Massapequa Park. The order must be held with a credit card, which will be charged the day of the game. Pickup is before noon on game day. If the Giants win, Horowitz will issue a full credit card refund.
This isn't the first time Horowitz has done this. Back in 2008, when the Giants won, he gave away $20,000 worth of food at the Bay Shore eatery. "I can't tell you how great it was for me -- how many people still remember and keep coming in," he said. Now, with two locations open, Horowitz is hoping to give away more than $40,000 worth of food.

SAME MENU, NEW CHEF AT AMICALE
Amicale, which received a three-star rating in Newsday last year, has a new chef. Nery Aguirre, who has been part of the cooking team at Amicale, takes over from George Echeverria, former chef and co-owner. Echeverria, who is now chef at Andiamo in Mineola, no longer is associated with Amicale. Gonzalo Moreno, former business partner with Echeverria, now runs the restaurant.
The menu at the continental-New American restaurant remains unchanged. Amicale is in the former home of Panama Hatties.

NEW CHEF, MENU AT CEDAR CREEK
David Dunn, a veteran of East End and Manhattan restaurants, is the new chef at Cedar Creek American Bar & Grill in Glen Cove. Dunn recently succeeded Richard Soriano. Under Soriano, the restaurant earned a 21/2-star rating last year in Newsday and was named one of the top 11 eateries of 2011.
Additions to the menu include steak frites with blue-cheese fondue, rack of lamb, lobster bisque and fried macaroni and cheese.

NO MORE FRANK N DOG
A recent casualty of the economy is Frank N Burger, a whimsical hot dog and burger spot in St. James with a horror movie theme.
One had to open really wide to get a bite of the monster-sized "frank n dog," a Colombian-style frankfurter smothered in ketchup, mustard, Russian dressing-style "pink sauce," sauteed onion, ham, mozzarella cheese, crushed potato chips and pineapple. Even so, it was worth the messy struggle. -- JOAN REMINICK
