Irrigation seminar at LongHouse Reserve
I've mentioned several times in my print column -- and right here on the blog -- that drip irrigation is the way to go when watering perennials, trees, shrubs and vegetables.
If you use a soaker hose, you won't waste water by spraying it past your plants, you won't risk fungal diseases by wetting foliage, and water will be directed where it's needed -- at plant roots.
If you want to learn more about watering, check out the "Our Water Source: How and Why Drip Irrigation Systems Work Best for your Shrubs and Garden" seminar on Saturday, Oct. 2 at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton. The lecture will begin at 10 a.m. in the sculpture garden.
You'll learn whether your lawns and gardens are being properly watered for even, consistent hydration, and how to ensure your plants get enough water (and not too much) from Robert Boyle, a certified irrigation auditor and instructor, and founder of RB Irrigation.
Tickets are $20 for the general public; $10 for members and free for members at the Founders level or above.
LongHouse Reserve is at 133 Hands Creek Rd. in Southampton. You can order tickets here.
