It's time for Hicks Nurseries Flower and Garden Show

You know spring is almost here when it's time for the Hicks Nurseries Flower and Garden Show. This year's show is  to start  Friday, March 11. The free, 10-day event promises indoor display gardens, gardening seminars, cooking demonstrations and kids' activities.

This year's thems is "Turn your backyard into an event," with displays providing inspiration for a backyard wedding, birthday party, July 4 barbecue and luau pool party. Each display garden will have signage detailing the plants used so you can try to recreate the scene at home.

Master gardeners from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County also will be on hand (look for them wearing red shirts) to answer gardening questions, test soil samples and help you select plants for your garden.

The show, which runs through March 20, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
