St. Baldrick's is a not-for-profit organization where lots of people get together and have their heads shaved in support of kids who have cancer. People donate money to have their heads shaved or they donate money in support of people who get their heads shaved.

The money collected goes toward kids with childhood cancer. When people are treated for cancer, many times their hair tends to fall out because of the chemotherapy.

When people get their heads shaved, they are supporting the cancer patients two ways -- financially and by helping them feel less upset about their hair loss.

My school has done St. Baldrick's for a long time. Altogether, my school raised $80,000. Kids can do St. Baldrick's, too. I did St. Baldrick's last year and I plan on doing it again. St. Baldrick's has raised more than $117 million since 2000. You do not have to go "bald," but you can if you want. St. Baldrick's also sells T-shirts, pins, wristbands, lollipops, cupcakes and hats at the venue to raise money. To sign up or to see where to get the nearest shave, or for more information about St. Baldrick's, go to stbaldricks.org or call 888-899-BALD (-2253).

Sharing our good fortune

I'm very lucky to have a home and a wonderful family. I live in a house with my mom, dad and my two sisters. You may not know it, but some people don't have any of that.

I am part of a wonderful Girl Scout troop that has the biggest hearts. We all want to help everyone who needs it. Our troop leader organizes us to do a special program each year. The Girl Scout troop and I go to a local homeless shelter in our town, and we do a craft or two with them. After that we have cookies and some juice boxes with them. Around Christmastime we helped decorate a special tree with them. The way that they all play with each other, it's just so nice to see them each year. I love going to the homeless shelter to do all those things. My friend and I go our own and we donate food and toys.
